Apophenia was developed as a part of the inaugural TIG Source Procedural Content Generation Competition.
From the thread:
Apophenia is the human mind's ability to see connections and patterns out of random noise, so I figured it would be a good title for a game in which I'm trying to make both the appearance and the rules as random as possible.
Use of Procedural Content Generation Methods
The rules and appearance of the game are randomly generated by using a game name submitted by the player as a seed. It also generates a written "meaning" for the game if the user turns on "Pretentious Mode."
